Turkey's AI startup count climbs to 504

The Türkiye Artificial Intelligence Initiative (TRAI) published its October 2026 Startup Map on 15 October 2026, and the count of AI startups reached 504 — the first time the map has passed 500. The April 2026 figure was 482. The growth is not one-directional: 43 startups were added, while 21 were removed because their web presence or activity had ended.

Fastest-growing area: agentic AI

The category split of the 43 new entries shows where the market is moving:

• Agentic AI (systems that plan and carry out multi-step tasks): 10 new startups — up from 5 in the April update.
• LegalTech: 5 (2 in April).
• HR Tech: 4 — the previous update added none at all in this area.
• Infrastructure and Operations: 3.

Of the 41 new startups with a known founding year, 25 were founded in 2025 or 2026. Most of the companies entering the map are one or two years old.

The map shows attrition, not just growth

The less-discussed side of the news is the 21 startups that were removed. For a small business the practical meaning is this: whether the AI tool you like now will still be running a year from now is a real question. If your customer data, bookings or menu sit in one young startup's cloud, a data export and migration plan belongs in the contract.

Activity beyond Istanbul

Istanbul still holds the largest share, but new startups also came from Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Antalya, Samsun, Bolu and Gebze. Companies with Turkish founders but headquarters in New York, Dubai or Amsterdam are on the map as well.
